Overview

In the world of NFP’s there seems to be many issues to tackle, problems to solve and challenges to overcome.

In this panel discussion, we discuss how NFPs can join up to tackle these issues, how to focus on solutions rather than organisations and new models for NFPs and social entrepreneurship.

Mark Conelly, CMinstD

Mark is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience in senior Finance roles including the last 20 years in Chief Financial Officer roles for medium to large NZ businesses (both privately owned and large trading units of listed entities). This includes over 14 years in Retail/Distribution businesses, including The Warehouse (“the red sheds”) and The Noel Leeming Group along with experience in Manufacturing, Consulting, and Insurance businesses. He has just completed an assignment as the Interim CFO for Trademe Limited.

In addition to his Commercial experience, he has held numerous Governance roles in both Commercial entities and NGOs for close to 30 years. Mark is currently on 6 Boards, including currently Chairing the Saint Kentigern Trust Board, the RMHC NZ Trust, Auckland Eye Limited and Health Improvement Group Limited.

Mark is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand and is a Chartered Member of the NZ Institute of Directors.

Jo Cribb, CMinstD

Jo has had a long career working on some of the toughest issues facing New Zealand – child poverty, violence against women and entrenched unemployment. She has been a senior public servant, leading the Office of the Children’s Commission and most recently as chief executive of the Ministry for Women.

She is an experienced NGO governor with roles including Royal New Zealand Navy, IHC, VSA, Literacy Aotearoa and was chair of Scots College. Jo recently published research into the governance capability of social sector NGOs. Her current portfolio includes working with leaders in New Zealand and internationally to achieve their diversity goals.

Jo believes good governance is the anchor for our organisations across all sectors. Good governance is the work of a diverse team of directors working to add value to the organisation's kaupapa, and so adding value to communities.

Jo has perfected distilling her own gin and is completing her advanced qualifications in wine. When not studying obscure Greek grape varieties, she can be found with her nose in a historical novel or trying her hand at adventure races.

Matthew Prichard, CMinstD

Matt is married to Leanne and is a father of five under 13.

He is Executive Chair of KPMG in New Zealand, a board member of World Vision New Zealand, Deputy Chair of the Aotearoa Circle’s Mana Kai (National Food Strategy) initiative, and a volunteer facilitator with Springboard Trust.

Caren Rangi, MInstD

Caren Rangi ONZM, FCA, MInstD of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand is a very proud Cook Islands Māori and an experienced governance practitioner. Caren is Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand. She is also a board member for Radio New Zealand and Pacific Co-operation Broadcasting Ltd, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Pacific Inc Ltd and is Chair of Pacific Homecare Services. Caren is also a Board director of the Cook Islands Investment Corporation in Rarotonga, and in this role is leading work to develop professional board directors in the Cook Islands.

In 2015, Caren was conferred as a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. In 2016 she was awarded a New Zealander of the Year Local Hero Award for services to governance. In 2018 Caren was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to governance and the Pacific community, and was named as the Linden Estate Hawke’s Bay Business Leader of the Year.
