Course description

Good governance in not-for-profit organisations will help build opportunities, drive success and build  a more sustainable future. The not-for-profit sector has changed considerably over recent decades and NFPs are facing more competition, increasing challenges and growing stakeholder scrutiny. Some of the key challenges include workload, increasing levels of responsibility, compliance obligations and public accountability.

In this series of six e-learning modules you will be introduced to some of the key concepts underpinning best practice governance for the not-for-profit sector.

Content covered

The Not-for-Profit Governance Essentials online series offers the following modules:

• Module 1: Governance and the law
  Learn why an understanding of governance and the law is critical for board members of NFP organisations.
• Module 2: Key board roles
  Gain an understanding of the key board roles for a NFP organisation.
• Module 3: Purpose and strategy
  Explore the responsibility of the board in determining a NFP’s organisation purpose, as well as the development and oversight of a future-focused strategy.
• Module 4: Board and organisational culture
  Understand the relationship between culture and the impact this has on a NFP board and organisational performance.
• Module 5: Boards and executives working together
  Understand the importance of holding management to account to ensure the NFP’s purpose is fulfilled.
• Module 6: Effective compliance
  Gain an understanding of financial obligations and compliance and duties.

Six hours.
