Mandatory climate reporting: Experiences from year one of New Zealand's regime
As we prepare for year two of mandatory climate reporting, lessons from the first year highlight areas of both opportunity and challenge.
The IoD generally supports the introduction of the Bill and the 2050 target and emissions budgets.
We also support the establishment of a permanent Climate Change Commission, and we suggest that the Minister for Climate Change should be required to ensure that the board has sufficient governance capability to lead and oversee the Commission.
We agree with the decision not to require mandatory climate-related disclosure in the Bill for organisations, and we support the introduction of other adaptation provisions to help address the impacts of climate change.
