Our Tailored evaluation service can be customised to suit Crown entity boards of any size or experience level. Your board will gain unique insights and analysis by an experienced governance professional to optimise board practice and performance.

What we can offer your board

Choose one or more of the following services to create a bespoke evaluation solution for your board:

• Tailored question set – We can work with you to tailor an appropriate question set for your board or guide you to customise your own. This can be between 50-100 questions covering areas of best practice governance and tailored to your board's specific needs, including those unique to charities, sports, or faith-based organisations.
• Tailored report – Your evaluation report will be produced by an experienced governance professional, providing detailed analysis of your results and recommendations for the board to improve its governance practice.
• Facilitated workshop – We can arrange an experienced governance professional to facilitate a workshop with your board discuss the results of your evaluation.  Focusing on the board’s strengths and areas for improvement, together you will develop a high-level board action plan to take forward.
• Individual evaluations – Each board member can evaluate the governance practices of themselves and other individual members of the board through an anonymous survey. The question set is based on the IoD’s Director Competency Framework and covers strategic and governance leadership, informed decision-making, business acumen, communication, and other behavioural attributes. A report is then produced for each board member and the chair.
• Board competency matrix – Each board member can evaluate their skills, experience and knowledge levels through a survey based on the core competencies needed for governance. We can tailor the survey to include competencies relevant to your organisation. The results are moderated by the board chair, then a board competency matrix is produced showing the board’s strengths and gaps in skills, experience and knowledge.
• Deep dive board evaluation – To gain deeper insights into your board’s practice, we can undertake interviews with board members, review your governance documents, and/or observe a board meeting.
• Other governance advisory services – Your board may need advice on developing governance systems and protocols, such as developing a board charter or conflict of interest policy. We can assess your board’s current practice and provide recommendations based on best governance practice.
