Simon Mackenzie

Simon Mackenzie is passionate about the power of technology to transform the energy industry and consumers’ lives. As group chief executive, he has expanded and driven Vector’s portfolio of businesses to embrace innovative technologies and strategies to deliver efficient, sustainable energy solutions to consumers. Simon was appointed Vector’s group chief executive in 2008.
His tertiary qualifications include engineering, finance and business studies, and the Advanced Management Programme at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Susan Paterson
BPharm, MBA (London), ONZM, CFInstD
Susan has a longstanding energy sector career. Prior to joining the board of Lodestone, she was a director for the Electricity Authority since its inception in 2010 and is currently chair of Steel and Tube and E-Road as well as a director of the Reserve Bank and Les Mills.
She was previously a member of the Wholesale Electricity Market Development Group in the mid-90s. Susan is also a previous board member of Arvida, Transpower, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) and chair of the NZ Eco-Labelling Trust.
Neal Barclay
Neal is currently Chief Executive (CE) of Meridian Energy, a position he has held since January 2018. Meridian Energy is New Zealand’s largest electricity retailer and generator and has a market capitalisation amongst the top two or three NZX listed companies.
Neal joined the Meridian Team in 2008 and before becoming CE he held three separate Executive roles Including Chief Financial Officer, General Manager of the Generation and Development and General Manager of Retail.
Prior to joining Meridian, Neal spent 13 years with Telecom New Zealand in a number of senior finance leadership roles.
Neal is a Fellow CA member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Jonathan Mason (moderator)
MBA, MA, BA, CFInstD
Jonathan is a Chartered Fellow of the IoD, the current Chair of the Auckland Branch Committee and also sits on the IoD National Council. Jonathan’s experience in financial markets over the past 30 years has had a strong emphasis on emerging markets and he has extensive governance experience in New Zealand and the United States.
Previous directorships include Air New Zealand and Vector Ltd. He is currently director on the boards of Westpac NZ and Zespri Group Ltd. In addition to these roles, he serves as an Honorary Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Auckland, with a focus on international finance.
