Join Dame Therese Walsh as she shares her expertise on governance in sport and her inspiring personal journey in board leadership.
Explore the unique challenges and rewards of governance in the sports sector with one of New Zealand’s foremost governance figures, Dame Therese Walsh. Drawing on her extensive experience, including her roles with the 2011 Rugby World Cup and as Chair of Air New Zealand, she will delve into the evolving expectations of directors in sport governance, the importance of resilience, and her own journey to board leadership across different industries. This session is an invaluable opportunity for directors and aspiring leaders to gain first-hand insights into balancing strategic oversight with community engagement and accountability in high-profile sectors.

Dame Therese Walsh is Chair of Air New Zealand Ltd, ASB Bank Ltd and Chapter Zero, and a Director of Antarctica New Zealand. She is a former Director of Contact Energy Ltd, Television New Zealand Ltd, NZX Ltd., Save the Children NZ, the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust and New Zealand Cricket. She was Pro Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington from 2018 to 2021 and served on the Council since 2016. In her professional capacity, Dame Therese was Head of New Zealand for the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup, Chief Operating Officer for Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd and CFO for New Zealand Rugby.
For her services to sport, she was made a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015. She was named the supreme winner of the Women of Influence Awards 2013 and awarded a Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Award in 2014. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
