Join a panel of directors, preparers, and users to explore reporting challenges, lessons learned, and future benefits.
Some boards have been producing voluntary climate disclosures for a number of years, but the climate-related disclosure regime has necessitated a significant uplift for climate-reporting entities (CREs). There are a lot of lessons that have been learned along the way.
A new guide entitled Lessons from the frontline developed in partnership with KPMG and the Institute of Directors as part of the Chapter Zero NZ directors’ climate forum, provides insights to support boards who are wanting to start disclosing and to enhance the processes of existing reporters as they step into year 2 of reporting. While New Zealand legislation currently only requires circa 200 entities to provide climate statements, there is increasing pressure on entities from a range of sources including trading partners, stakeholders, investors and insurers.
In this event we will hear from a panel that includes directors, preparers and users to understand more about the challenges facing reporting entities, what they learned, how they’ll approach the challenge moving forward, and the benefits they’ve identified.

Sanel has over 25 years’ experience advising clients across industries and geographies with a particular focus on matters affecting business from a finance and corporate reporting perspective.
Before rejoining KPMG in New Zealand, she was the Head of Strategy for the External Reporting Board (XRB) and led the initial set up of the Climate Standards project, including acting as the interim Project Director.
Sanel was previously a partner at KPMG in China based in Hong Kong. In this role she advised clients on international financial reporting standards, sustainable/green finance and ESG regulations issued by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
She was also previously the Asia Pacific regional coordinator for financial reporting initiatives and held leadership roles in a number of KPMG’s Global IFRS Topic Teams. Through these Sanel has developed close relationships with various other member firms in the KPMG global network.
She is passionate about inclusion and financial literacy and regularly engages in voluntary and/or not-for-profit initiatives. Sanel was one of the founding members of KPMG China’s Inclusion and Diversity Council and in 2019 Sanel was awarded a KPMG China’s Chairmen award for services to the community.
